When a 7yr old Edgar Myers saw
Ringo Starr having great fun performing with the Beatles on TV, he knew
his calling. A few weeks later seeing Buddy Rich on TV, he knew he had
alot of work ahead of him. After years of banging on pots &
pans, toasters, table tops & siblings, he got his first drumset at 13. By
age 17 Edgar landed a full time paying gig, playing the Lord Baltimore
Hotel.
Deciding he needed to sharpen his skills and technique, Edgar took
college courses studying latin & jazz rhythms, rudiments & reading, and
basic theory.
With formal and informal training, influences from John Bonham to Billy
Cobham, Bill Bruford to Jack DeJohnette, and his pure passion for the
drums, it inspired him to play and perform a variety of musical styles.
After playing professionally for twenty years, Edgar freshened his
skills in the late 90's with private lessons from funk/fusion masters
Dennis Chambers and Larry Bright.
Here are some of the bands Edgar has played with over the years:
Rock/Pop/Progressive rock- The Doubts, Paper Cup, Alaska, Never Never.
Variety/Show- Harbor Cruises, Windjammer, Grimm&Raye.
Jazz/Blues/Fusion- Plexus, James Cotton, Cyrus Chestnut, Howard Burns,
Chakra.
Edgar Myers also teaches at Make-n-Music and
CVSM, and leads a drumset
trio, The Batterie Three.
